Modern people have four basic expectations of the bathroom, a fundamental part of our daily lives: that it be practical, beautiful, economical and hygienic. While presenting these four expectations with explanations, we also felt we owed it to ourselves and to the world to prepare a special section on saving.
SAVE AND PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT!
5 WAYS TO SAVE
Worldwide, 11% of water resources are used by households; in Turkey the figure is 15%. While daily household water use per person is 150 litres in EU member states, in Turkey it is 220 litres according to TÜİK data. In regions suffering from water scarcity, it is between 20 and 60 litres.
Water used in homes is spent as follows (AWWA Research Foundation): 26% in toilets, 22% in washing machines, 17% in showers, 16% at taps, 2% in bathtubs, 3% elsewhere, and 14% lost to leaks in household plumbing.
Check for leaks! Plumbing systems should be checked regularly for any leak. Bathroom renovations should be planned and carried out by specialist teams. Plumbing layout matters for saving both electricity and water: the length of hot-water pipe runs can save a significant amount of electricity.
Use water-saving fittings! A standard shower head uses 15 litres of water; water-saving models can halve that. Assuming an average shower lasts six minutes, that saves 50 litres every time, or 20,000 litres per person per year.
Replace your old sanitaryware! A water-saving cistern saves 35,000 litres a year. With these toilets you use 4.5 litres on a full flush and 3 litres on a half flush.
Insulate your hot-water pipes! Insulating water pipes keeps the most energy. When planning, water heaters should be placed close to the fittings they serve.
Take shorter showers! (4 minutes)
Our notes grew a little with every project, one addition after another, until they became a booklet.
