Birdhouses

“Besides giving shelter to animals, the birdhouses built by the Turks reflect certain beliefs. For example, turtle doves were believed to protect lovers, and swallows to protect the place where they nested from fire. Birds such as storks and terns were thought to travel to holy places, so care was taken that they were well looked after here.” (Haluk Özözlü, The Ottoman Empire: Birdhouses in the Ottomans)

DOMO – notes
are about the things found in this geography, or that have grown out of the effect this geography has had on us.

They are notes that have ripened the work we have been part of so far, whether at its heart or at its edges — and they are also the crumbs, sediments and accumulations those works left behind.

Our “Birdhouses” notes are now published!
