Set on sloping land, the building brings two independent rental flats together within a single stone mass. One flat is a duplex, its spaces arranged vertically; in the other, all living spaces are laid out horizontally on a single floor. The stone façade that gives the building its main character is conceived as a heavy, continuous shell that merges with the steep, natural character of the land. That weight is broken in a controlled way by the openings cut into the façade and by the use of other materials. Throughout the building, this approach strikes a balance between weight and lightness, mass and void, the horizontal and the vertical.
