Bezirgan

Bezirgan, whose present inhabitants do not have a very long history on this land, is a village 42 km from Kaş and 17 km from Kalkan, on the route of the Lycian Way. The 200–300-year-old village is known as the summer settlement of the Bezirgan quarter on the Kalkan coast. It is a Turkmen village founded after migrations from the Urfa region in the late 1700s.
The village sits on the plain behind the 900-metre hill that rises behind Kalkan, and receives cool air all year round through the passes in this hill. The village granaries are, accordingly, placed in one of these passes. Used for about 150 years, these buildings are the stores that keep the villagers’ provisions fresh through summer and winter.
Both the cedar timbers joined by lap-and-notch methods and the architectural style of these structures — which can be seen very clearly in the Lycian rock tombs — are a cultural transmission from the Lycian civilisation, and this transmission is still alive.
